3 tips for a great app experience

When it comes to the app business, there's no deny that experience is what attracts consumers. What really matters is how the app makes you feel when you use it.

Here are three tips to make your app experience great:

1. Start from the purpose

To design a true user-centered experience, you need to start from you customers’ purposes. Don’t just think “how we can make the features easy to access?” instead ask yourself “what are the scenarios where my app will be used?” and “what is the purpose of my customer in those situations?” then build the app experience as a reaction to that. In other words when designing app experiences you need to move from a “path-to-function” to a “path-to-purpose” perspective.

2. Make digital more human

Mobile has changed, it's now a truly integral part of our everyday life. Consumers love more human connections with their apps. When you design experiences, consider the user’s psychological thought process – expectations, doubts, wishes – and build your interaction around that. This creates a deeper “emotional” connection, which boosts retention and advocacy.

3. Turn the user into a star

When designing experiences, don’t think in terms of one size fits all, instead create apps that build experiences around the individuality of each user. In other words, you need to engage some level of artificial intelligence algorithms. You can start by utilizing data already stored on the phone.

While these three tips work great for any mobile device, they are particularly effective for smartwatch apps, for three reasons:

1. Smartwatches were made to provide a seamless experience - so this approach fits the purpose of the device
2. The user expects this type of new experiences on those devices
